A window hammock starts with the window itself. Measure the available space, identify the mounting surface and check the model’s requirements before choosing a place for your cat to rest.
Compare the two mounting methods
The Clamp Window Cat Hammock attaches to a compatible ledge with clamps. The Suction-Cup Window Hammock attaches to compatible glass with four suction cups. A window that suits one method may not suit the other.
Each hammock has a maximum supported load of 40 lb. Stay within that limit and confirm the mounting fit as well as your cat’s weight. The load limit does not make an unsuitable ledge or glass surface suitable.
Measure the product space
These are overall product dimensions, rather than a measurement of the usable fabric resting area:
- Clamp Window Cat Hammock: width 24.8 in (63 cm), depth 15.7 in (40 cm), height 6.3 in (16 cm).
- Suction-Cup Window Hammock: width 23.6 in (60 cm), depth 14.4 in (36.6 cm), height 10.4 in (26.36 cm).
Measure the clear width at the intended position and the distance the hammock will project into the room. Check the height available around it, including handles, blinds and curtains. Leave a clear route for your cat to get on and off, and make sure the installation will not obstruct the window’s normal operation.
For a clamp mount, confirm the ledge first
Record the ledge thickness, usable depth and any trim or raised edge around the intended clamp positions. Take a photo from the front and side. The supported clamp thickness range is not yet confirmed, so contact us before purchase with those measurements and photos. Do not assume the clamps will fit from the hammock’s overall dimensions alone.
For suction cups, check the glass contact area
Look for a smooth, flat, undamaged glass area where every cup can make full contact. A frame, seam, texture or film at a contact point may affect compatibility. If the surface is uncertain, send us a photo before ordering. Do not install on cracked or unsuitable glass.
Before the first rest, and each time after
- Follow the installation instructions supplied for the exact model. Ask us for help if a step or part is unclear.
- For the suction-cup model, clean and dry the glass contact area and check all four seals. For the clamp model, check that both clamps are secure and the platform is level.
- Check stability before letting your cat use the hammock. If a clamp shifts, a cup lifts or any part is damaged, stop use and correct the setup first.
- Recheck the fixings before use and whenever the hammock is moved or reinstalled. Stay nearby as your cat first explores it.
If your window cannot provide a confirmed fit, explore the floor-standing options in Rest. A good resting place should work with the room you already have.
